Does anyone know how to extract primarily CBD cannabinoids vs. THC cannabinoids? Could this be achieved through different cooking temperatures while making a tincture or oil? At what temperature does THC degrade/vaporize? I want to make a concoction that does not contain the psychoactive aspects of the plant. Thanks in advance!

Allowing the plant to over-ripen will give you a much higher percentage of CBD and CBN compared to THC. Although you will certainly still feel an effect from those molecules as well.

I know there are some sites which list the THC/CBN/CBD percentages in their strains. So you could start with that, and then allow it to get very amber, and that should get you in the right direction.

Are you looking for something for pain relief?

I was more specifically looking for something that could be used as an everyday supplement to keep the body healthy. It is my understanding that the CBD in cannabis can ward off cancer, treat Alzheimer's, treat glaucoma, and keep the immune system balanced. I want something for my mom that does not have the psychoactive effects. I've been researching on line that CBD (not psychoactive) tinctures have been around for a few years in the dispensaries, but I'm in the midwest in a not so cannabis friendly state so I don't have that option.

The leaves of cannabis contains higher levels of CBD and is extracted best through gas extraction (co2 or butane). The psychoactive effects will still be there for sure, if not more than through plain flowers. But the CBD will surely be doing it's deed! Read great things about CBD!!

Edit- ^^^^ yea you know what's up! And if concerned about the health effects of butane, there's a technique called vacuum purging that is supposed to remove most of, if not all leftover butane in the oil. What would be left I doubt would be worse than lighting a bowl with a butane lighter. And the oil can be vaped or ingested if one is against or advised not to smoke.

I've done tinctures before with no problem, with grain alcohol, but I was recently able to get my hands on lab grade petroleum ether which I have heard is 100 times better than alcohol extraction. I guess I am not sure what you mean by gas extraction. Can you explain further? Thanks!

Here is a link that explains a bit: http://bubbleponics.com/forum/showthread.php?1155-Just-made-Myself-some-BHO-Honey-oil&highlight=Butane

There's a few more in the Hash, Kief and Concentrates section. But there's alot more info out in the web. That's one thing this site lacks is good extraction tutorials and methods. But we only have a very small amount of hash and oil enthusiasts.

Well then, maybe I should find out how to do what I want to do and then make a tutorial.

I don't think I am too keen on the idea of using Butane though. Has anyone seen Rick Simpson's hemp oil method or recipe. Looks pretty solid to me. I think I might have even seen a tutorial on here. Yep... here (http://bubbleponics.com/forum/showthread.php?513-Rick-Simpson-s-Cannabis-Oil-Recipe(cure-for-cancer-diabetes-chronic-pain-etc-)). Maybe I'll head over there now. :)

And the best BHO butane thread on this site IMO is this.

Only thing you need is the best oil used for making cannabis oil get a crock pot add more medicine than oil mix it around on low setting for 14-18 hrs it will turn blackish color the oil will eat majority of the medicine and you strain the excess plant material out after words. NOW if you cook it in brownies you will get the psychoactive effects. You will always have a small amount of THC but thats good! but the best part is if you rub it on your body you will not get effect by the chemicals in a narcotic way. I would also suggest rubbing it in your gums or brushing your teeth with that but I do not know if that will show THC up in your blood system and or hair/urine. Peace brothers and sisters.

This information is not from me in any sort of way

ACCESSING 0.5 to 2.0 GRAMS CBD
FRACTIONATING THE PHYTOCANNABINOIDS BY THEIR VAPORIZATION POINTS

Patients can use heat to fractionate or separate the active ingredients in cannabis by their vaporization or boiling points. In particular for those patients that need relief from pain, inflammation, muscle spasm and or anxiety during the daytime CBD or Cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that once separated from THC. CBD is a uniquely potent antioxidant that can cross the blood-brain barrier in addition to CBDs ability to reduce anxiety, pain and inflammation outside the CNS (Central Nervous System). Interestingly, CBD is claimed in United States Patent 6,630,507, which notably has been assigned to the United States of America Dept of Health and Human Services. In particular note the definitions of Oxidative Associated Diseases for which CBD is ideally suited.

Once convinced of the utility of this non-psychoactive phyto-cannabinoid, the challenge is how to extract it from cannabis. Of the strains in this county Northern Lights has the highest CBD concentration at 1.0%. Since a pound of cannabis weighs 454 grams, there is 4.5 grams of CBD available. Another strain, White Russian has 2.0% CBD. White Russian is reportedly sensitive to mold but if compatible with your environment, it would be a 100% improvement in CBD concentration. While some might raise their eyebrows at the low amount of CBD present per pound of cannabis, it is important to know that there is 10 to 100 times more CBD per pound of cannabis than Vit C per pound of fresh oranges, for oranges 3 months old it would require 20 to 200 times as much raw material to produce an equivalent 500 mg daily dose.

An article in The Journal of Autoimmunity showed that at particular mouse strain that develops diabetes 86% of the time and is the animal model on which oral and injectable anti-diabetic medications are tested, when given 5 mg/kg body weight per day, 60% DID NOT GO ON TO DEVELOP DIABETES. This would have to be the greatest demonstration of an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. There was poster presented at the International Cannabinoid Research Society meeting this last summer that used a dose of 10 mg/ kg which would be equivalent to 1,000 mg / day for 190 pound patient.

Specifically, since Delta 9 THC vaporizes at 157 degrees centigrade and CBD vaporizes at 188 degrees centigrade, this difference can be used to separate these components. Given the predominance of THC (94% of all cannabinoids present) it is necessary to lower the THC content before collecting the CBD or the level of intoxication is so prohibitive as to prevent access to an adequate amount of CBD. The most efficient approach is to use a variable temperature heat gun. This can be calibrated the heat gun to 166 degree centigrade with the Fluke Digital Thermometer available in the waiting room. At this temperature THC is converted into a vapor and removed. Now you have pre-heated low THC cannabis which can be placed in a collection vaporizer such as a Volcano set at the 6 position or if you have a digital at 190 degrees centigrade to convert CBD from a liquid to a vapor. If there is too much residual THC effect you can raise the preheat temperature to 176 degrees centigrade because a few strains do have some Delta 8 THC, which vaporizes at 175 degrees compared to Delta 9, which vaporizes at 157 degrees centigrade. Please note that I carry a Fluke digital thermometer with which you can calibrate your variable temperature heat gun.

Alternatively the high CBD cannabis created by stripping out the THC can be used by any means if you do have access to a collecting vaporizer. The amount of THC removed is a function of how finely the cannabis was ground to increase the surface area and how long it is heated. It requires a shift in thinking in that there can be powerful medical benefits without the familiar THC effect, for many older patients this can be comforting information. Once again to develop an appreciation for the breadth of medical utility attributed to CBD.

157 C = 315 F, 175 C = 349 F, 190 C = 374 F It appears that if one person wanted the THC effect, and another just wanted the CBD, they could both get what they want from the same vaping by adjusting the temperature! The THC lover goes first, then a 2nd higher temperature session for the CBD patient!

I am counting on this. My wife has some pretty serious pain issues but I don't want or need the couch lock effect. I have some Aurora indica growing that should be perfect for her and I have bought a vaporizor so that maybe I can get some good out of it too using the above method. Just in case there is an AK48 going too. Going to be a few more months before I know for sure about this.
